Horses and the Missouri Ozarks
Horses and the Missouri Ozarks
The Animal Clinic & Equine Center provides veterinary care for horses and since 1980, embryo transfer services for horses and cattle. West Plains is located in the Ozarks hills on the border of Missouri and Arkansas and in the center of Missouri from east to west.
Most of the patients seen at the AC & EC are used for pleasure or working. The gaited horses are very popular in the area as the headquarters of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse is located only fifty miles away. In this rural area competitive ranch working events are popular, and the influence of the Quarter Horse and Paints is strong. Most of the other breeds are represented as well. The beautiful terrain of the locality lends itself to trail riding by horses of all breeds.
While reproduction is a big part of this practice, most of the mares come from small bands and the stallions have limited booking. A great deal of breeding is with artificial insemination and shipped cooled semen.
