Cute Horse Picture: Krystle
Liz Rocklin Writes:
I love your website! Here's a cute picture of my 30" AMHA miniature
"Krystle". Enjoy!

Liz:  Is Krystle a rock star?  She kind of reminds me of Mick Jagger here, but with Rod Stewart's haircut.

By the way, Liz, did you know what Krystel is doing here?  Horses twist their upper lip into the air in order to improve their sense of smell!

They get a "nose full" of an aroma that they want to "analyze" more fully.  They seal off their nostrils with their upper lips (making this corny scrunched up face in the process) so that they can trap the "smell molecules" in their noses longer: maximizing the amount of time the "smell sample" spends in their "equine olfactory laboratory." ~MR [of course, there may be other reasons horses do this, as well:  read below . . .]

Thanks for posting it and explaining what the Flehmens Response is; a lot of people don't know.

Krystle has learned "Flehmen's Response" equals treat, so she spends most of her time making these faces!
